Fatal Car Crash in Belgium: Father Killed, Son Critical After Sidewalk Collision

A father and his son were hit on Wednesday morning in Diegem, Belgium, by a car while they were on the sidewalk. Mohamed died on the spot while the son is in critical condition at the hospital.
Around 7:30 a.m., on the sidewalk of Schetsstraat and Haachtsesteenweg, a 57-year-old father and his 11-year-old son were hit by a Peugeot. The 34-year-old female driver is said to have lost control of her vehicle. The father was dragged several meters and succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while his son, seriously injured, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. His condition is stable, but his life is "in danger".
An in-depth investigation has been opened by the public prosecutor’s office to clarify the circumstances of this tragic accident. According to the initial elements, it seems that the driver made a wrong maneuver while her car was stopped, causing a sudden acceleration. The car first hit a pole before hitting the father and his son. The alcohol and drug tests carried out on the driver were negative. Traumatized by the events, she was questioned by the authorities and taken care of by a victim support service.
The tragedy has caused great emotion, especially among the victims’ family. The deceased’s sister expressed her incomprehension in the face of this tragedy, stating that her brother, Mohamed, accompanied his son to the bus stop every morning. A neighbor, witness to the events, described the cries and tears that followed the accident.
