Far-Right Vox Party Urges Spain to Cancel Morocco Transit Operation Amid Migrant Crisis

In reaction to Morocco’s attitude of allowing thousands of migrants to arrive in Ceuta, causing an unprecedented migration crisis, the far-right party Vox has called on the Spanish government to suspend subsidies to Morocco and cancel Operation Marhaba 2021 as well as the granting of entry visas to Europe for all Moroccan citizens.

The president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, proposes to the government, as retaliation against the "invasion" of Moroccan migrants in Ceuta at the beginning of last week, to suspend all subsidies to Morocco, to cancel Operation Marhaba 2021, and to block or cancel the granting of entry visas to Europe for all its citizens.

The far-right formation considers that Spain’s lack of reaction encourages Morocco’s "increasingly aggressive" actions and denotes a "weakness" of Spain in the defense of its territorial integrity, sovereignty and security.

For Abascal, "immediate" action is necessary. "The recent events in Ceuta have revealed the extent of a migration crisis that we have been dragging on for decades and that will only increase exponentially," warns Abascal, who calls on the government to resort to "countermeasures" against Morocco, which has allowed migrants to arrive en masse in Ceuta, and also calls on the EU to impose economic sanctions on the kingdom.
