Expert Warns: Spain-Morocco Co-Sovereignty Deal for Ceuta and Melilla Possible by 2030

Intelligence expert Fernando Cocho has warned of a co-sovereignty agreement between Morocco and Spain on Ceuta and Melilla by 2030, with the support of the European Union and France.
In statements to El Faro de Melilla, Fernando Cocho discussed the announced signing between Spain and Morocco of a co-sovereignty agreement on Ceuta and Melilla by 2030, with the support of France which has just normalized its relations with Morocco by officially supporting the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara.
Cocho regretted the lack of a vigorous response from the Spanish authorities in the face of Morocco’s provocations, which is trying to economically stifle the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla and strengthen its military presence in the waters of the Canary Islands. According to the expert, Morocco is working to recover the maritime freight traffic to Algeciras, Ceuta and Melilla in favor of the port of Tanger Med.
Cocho also mentions the good cooperation between France and Morocco, strengthened by France’s recent recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. He adds that Morocco, with the support of the European Union and the United States who consider it a strategic ally, is managing to extend its geopolitical influence in North Africa, including on the Sahara, Ceuta, Melilla and the Canary Islands.
