European Parliament to Vote on Resolution Condemning Morocco's Use of Minors in Ceuta Migration Crisis

The Spanish political group Ciudadanos (C’s) is calling on the European Parliament to vote a resolution to punish Morocco for violating the rights of minors in the migration crisis in Ceuta.

The European Parliament will consider on Thursday the draft resolution presented by the Spanish political group Ciudadanos (C’s) which calls for punishing Morocco for allowing thousands of minors to enter en masse in Ceuta on May 17 and 18, causing an unprecedented migration crisis. French President Emmanuel Macron would support this resolution entitled "Violation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the use of minors by the Moroccan authorities in the migration crisis in Ceuta".

On Thursday, the MEPs will decide whether to adopt or reject this Spanish project. For the initiators, Morocco will not be able to escape this sanction from the MEPs, especially since the Renew Europe Group has 98 seats out of 705 in the European Parliament. Moreover, Spain has the support of all the EU member states against Morocco.

Around 1,500 minor migrants arrived en masse in Ceuta between May 17 and 19. In total, 920 of them were taken care of by the local authorities of Ceuta. The others, left to their own devices, continue to wander the streets. The Spanish authorities, for their part, are demanding guarantees before any repatriation of these minors to Morocco.
