Eric Cantona Faces Defamation Trial Over Racism Claims Against France Coach Deschamps

Two former players were in court on Friday. Eric Cantona is accused of defamation by the coach of the French national team, for comments implicitly accusing Didier Deschamps of racism. The reason underlying this accusation is that "DD" would not have selected Hatem Ben Arfa and Karim Benzema for Euro 2016.
It all started on May 26, 2016, when, in the columns of the Guardian, Eric Cantona, former French international and star of Manchester United, had accused Didier Deschamps, the coach of the French national team, of racism. Deschamps filed a complaint against Cantona for public defamation.
At the time, "Canto" had declared that the fact that "Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa were not selected for Euro 2016 is linked to their origins". For him, the fact that the two players are of North African origin did not please the coach.
