The end of an era: Derb Ghallef (Casablanca) will make way for a gigantic Mall

The urban municipality is examining this Tuesday the project that seals the future of this emblematic place, known for its electronic articles, reports Assabah. The new urban configuration aims to enhance the space by replacing the current structures with a rethought architecture on an area of 72,672 m².

The future complex will be surrounded by two large green spaces and served by 20-meter-wide roads. Parking access is planned to avoid the chronic traffic jams in this central area, while certain sections of Boulevard Anoual will be widened.

This modernization incorporates a heritage dimension with the preservation of several buildings of historical value. The sector, bounded by the boulevards of April 9 and Abdelmoumen, must complete its transformation before the kick-off of the 2030 World Cup.

The realization of this project remains, however, linked to major challenges. The expropriation procedures for land belonging to the municipal domain will have to be accelerated and the consultations with the 3,000 merchants and craftsmen whose activity is directly impacted by this complete overhaul will have to be successfully carried out.
