US Embassy Warns of Planned Protests Across Morocco, Urges Vigilance

The US Embassy in Rabat urges US citizens in Morocco to be vigilant due to potential threats. It warns them that demonstrations are planned in the coming days across the kingdom.
In a security alert, the US Embassy in Rabat announces that demonstrations are planned in the coming days across Morocco and reiterates the importance of maintaining a high level of vigilance and having a good knowledge of the situation near any protest or demonstration. It invites American citizens in Morocco to consult the State Department’s travel advice for Morocco. This recommends "avoiding demonstrations and crowds, remaining vigilant in areas frequented by tourists and being ready to adjust their travel plans".
"Although we are not aware of any specific and credible threats against US citizens in Morocco at this time, travelers to and from Morocco are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and be more easily located in an emergency," the US representation said. It urges them to be vigilant in areas where demonstrations are taking place; to follow local media for information; to be attentive to their environment; to play the card of discretion and to remain vigilant in places frequented by tourists and Westerners. It also urges them to review their personal security plans, enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and facilitate their location in an emergency, and follow the State Department on Facebook and Twitter.
This alert comes a week after the surprise and spectacular attack by the Palestinian movement Hamas, classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, against Israel, which has already killed more than 3,000 and displaced 500,000. A few hours after the offensive, US President Joe Biden spoke, along with the Vice President, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, about "coordination to support Israel, deter other hostile actors and protect the innocent." In a speech, he hammered that he would help the Hebrew state defend itself against "pure evil."
On a solidarity visit, the US Secretary of State reaffirmed Washington’s support for Tel Aviv. "You may be strong enough to defend yourselves alone, but as long as the United States exists, you will never have to. We will always be by your side," Antony Blinken said at a press conference after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. And he added: "Whoever wants peace and justice must condemn the reign of terror of Hamas. We know that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people or their legitimate aspirations to live in security, according to the principles of freedom, justice and dignity."
