US Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sahara Autonomy Plan as ’Credible’

The spokesperson for the US State Department, Matthew Miller, reaffirmed Washington’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara, which is considered "realistic" and "credible".
"We continue to view Morocco’s autonomy plan as serious, credible and realistic and as one of the potential positions to address the aspirations of the people of Western Sahara," Miller said, as quoted by Europa Press, who did not fail to reiterate the United States’ support for the efforts of the United Nations special envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, while inviting him to "intensify" his actions to achieve a "lasting and dignified solution" to this conflict.
The State Department spokesman took care to clarify that Washington has not maintained "bilateral contacts" with the Polisario Front and that the US ambassador to Algiers, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, had simply participated in a "UN-organized visit" to the Tindouf camps in Algeria. "The United States is the world’s largest contributor to international humanitarian efforts, including through our support for the vital work of UN agencies in Tindouf," he explained.
