US Embassy Pledges Support for Moroccan Sports Development, Youth Programs

The Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, David Greene, announced that his country is determined to support the development of sport in Morocco. The disclosure was made to the AS Salé team participating in a continental basketball competition in Rwanda.

Greene outlined the content of this Moroccan-American cooperation in the field of sport and youth. It concerns programs aimed at young people to strengthen their leadership.

The American diplomat recalled the particular context in which the NBA BAL is being held. This context is marked by the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. He congratulated the AS Salé team which has qualified for the final phase of the competition, saluting the will and efforts of all the stakeholders who are organizing this sporting event for the first time on the African continent.

The delegated president of AS Salé, Abderraouf Bentaleb, expressed his gratitude to the American diplomat. He noted the solidity of the cooperation relations between Morocco and the United States in several areas, including sports.

The AS Salé team is determined to carry the national colors of Morocco high at the BAL. The competition is organized under the supervision of the NBA and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), explained the sports leader.

The participation of the US Embassy in Rabat and the NBA in this ceremony demonstrates the position of the Kingdom and its leadership in sports, stressed Mr. Bentaleb.

The BAL is a pan-African competition organized and subsidized by the NBA and supervised by FIBA. Initially scheduled for March 13, 2020, the competition was postponed due to coronavirus until this year. The kickoff of the NBA Basketball Africa League will be given in Kigali on May 16 with the participation of 12 African teams. The competition will end on May 30.
