Moroccan Basketball Team Makes History, Hires First Female Coach in Arab World

A first in Morocco and the Arab world. AS Salé basketball has hired a woman coach in the person of Australian Liz Mills for its men’s team.
Liz Mills will be the first woman to be a coach in the Basketball Africa League. She is originally from Sydney and has been practicing this profession for more than a decade. Her contract will take effect next month, when the joint NBA-FIBA competition begins its second season, reports the Associated Press (AP) agency.
AS Salé is already delighted with this collaboration, which could further highlight the club. "We are pleased to confirm the recruitment of coach Liz Mills to lead the technical staff of AS Salé for the rest of the season with the possibility of renewal (of the contract) in case of mutual agreement," the club said. "This is a first in Morocco and the Arab world."
AS Salé will not be the first men’s team that Liz Mills will manage. She had coached the Kenyan team during the continental championship last summer. "I am delighted to announce that I am joining the head coach position for the upcoming season and national championship," she tweeted.
