Morocco Emerges as African Powerhouse in American Football

American football is gaining ground in Morocco. Although it is intense and aggressive, this sport is conquering more and more enthusiasts.

Morocco is increasingly establishing itself as a nation of American football in Africa. Unknown to the public a few years ago, this sport is attracting men and women, making the kingdom one of the great nations of this sport in Africa.

This is evidenced by the Black Mambas, Jaguars, Lions clubs, the first women’s and other men’s teams, which make up the backbone of the national team, crowned champion of Africa in 2014, despite its young existence since 2012.

In the wake of this, it was also the first African and Arab team to qualify for the American football World Cup in Sweden in 2015, which it will not participate in after the relocation of this competition to the United States.

Under the aegis of the Moroccan American Football Association (AMFA) and several initiatives, this sport is experiencing enthusiasm among young people. The "We Can Morocco" association organized, last weekend in Sidi Bouknadel (Salé), a training camp for young people and a master class for Moroccan players.

On this occasion, the president of the association and founder of the women’s American football club "Jaguars", Fouziya Madhouni, indicated that the action of the entity she chairs focuses on the promotion of education through sport for the benefit of children and adolescents by teaching them English and initiating them to American football in particular.

In her statement to MAP, she indicates that this initiative is organized in partnership with the municipality of Sidi Bouknadel and the American "Star Wright" Foundation. It consists of bringing in American professional players from the National Football League (NFL) to make this sport known in Morocco and share their experience with Moroccan players.

Actions that will encourage practitioners and arouse other talents, it is hoped.
