Electric Vehicles: Morocco Attracts Chinese High-Tech Giant

Morocco’s automotive ecosystem continues to expand with the arrival of a new Chinese player. Shanghai Ingin Auto Technology, through its subsidiary Ingin Inteligent Morocco, is preparing to begin construction of a plant at the Cité Mohammed VI Tanger Tech. This project, estimated at more than 200 million dirhams, marks the group’s first industrial operation outside its borders.

Founded in 2017, the company specializes in R&D and the manufacture of technological components such as electric tailgates, smart trunk locks (“smart frunk”) and motorized side doors.

This strategic decision reflects a desire to remain close to major automakers, first and foremost Stellantis. The Kénitra plant, which assembles Peugeot, Citroën and Fiat models, represents a major outlet for the supplier.

This investment is part of a wave of Asian industrial companies arriving in the Kingdom, following the announcement of Shanghai Jinxiu Shanhe’s commercial vehicle plant and the construction of Gotion High-Tech’s battery Gigafactory.
