Ecuador Stuns Morocco 2-0 in U17 World Cup Group Stage Upset

The Moroccan national under-17 team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Ecuador on Monday. The two goals of the match were scored by the Ecuadorian captain, Michael Bermudez, first on a penalty in the 62nd minute, then in stoppage time.
This victory allows Ecuador to take the lead in Group A with 4 points, while Morocco slips to second place with 3 points.
The start of the match was marked by a clear Moroccan domination. The team created several dangerous opportunities, including a shot from Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal that hit the crossbar in the 18th minute, and a free kick from Zakaria Ouazane in the 25th minute, saved by the Ecuadorian goalkeeper. Michael Bermudez also had an opportunity for Ecuador in the 34th minute, but his shot missed the target. The first half ended in a draw.
The second half continued at a sustained pace, with Morocco seeking to capitalize on its dominance. However, in the 61st minute, the referee whistled a rather debated penalty in favor of Ecuador, successfully converted by Bermudez. This opening of the scoring changed the dynamics of the match, putting the young Moroccans under pressure.
As Morocco tried to get back into the game, a second goal was scored by Ecuador in the 92nd minute, again by Bermudez, sealing the Ecuadorian victory.
