Morocco Advances to U17 World Cup Quarter-Finals After Penalty Shootout Win Over Iran

The Moroccan under-17 team qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Facing Iran on Tuesday at the Gelora-Bung-Tomo Stadium in Surabaya, Indonesia, the Atlas Cubs secured their ticket for the next round after a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The match started with a Moroccan team clearly oriented towards attack. Determined to take the lead quickly, the Moroccans nevertheless ran into a well-organized Iranian defense and a lack of precision in the final gesture. On the other side, the Iranian team tried to take advantage of the spaces left by the Moroccans, without managing to materialize their chances, notably due to a solid performance of the Moroccan defense, led by Fouad Zahouani and goalkeeper Taha Benrhozil.
The intensity of the match increased towards the end of the first half, with clear Moroccan dominance. The Moroccans, despite several attempts, saw their efforts come to nothing due to imperfect finishing and a lack of concentration. Iran, although less offensive, remained dangerous but also failed to find the net.
The second half saw the Moroccans maintain the pressure, desperately seeking to open the scoring. The match turned in the 74th minute when Iran surprised the Moroccans with a goal from Ismaeil Gholazadeh. Not giving up, the Moroccan team redoubled their efforts and finally found the reward with an equalizing goal from Nassim Azouzi in the final moments of the match, sending the two teams to a penalty shootout, where Morocco managed to come out on top.
This success sends the Moroccan under-17 team into the quarter-finals where they will face Mali on Saturday, November 25.
