Ecstasy Trafficking Surges in Tangier as Prices Plummet

In Tanger, the bus station is gradually turning into a real hub for the trafficking of psychotropic drugs, particularly ecstasy. The reason is that this drug is sold at a cheap price, ranging from 4 to 6 dirhams per tablet.
In a frantic quest to develop their business in the Kingdom, traffickers do not hesitate to lower the price of ecstasy. This psychotropic substance, which was sold in previous years for 100 dirhams per unit, has recently cost 4 to 6 dirhams per tablet.
As a result, the product is flooding the national market, especially in Tangier, thus transforming the city into a main supply point for traffickers and sellers, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The city of Detroit marks the starting point of the distribution operations of this type of "Karkobi" in Morocco, according to the latest statistics carried out by the police services, based on the quantity of tablets seized at the Tangier bus station.
The price of the ecstasy tablet is set at 6 dirhams, or even 4, depending on the quantity requested in many sales outlets in Tangier, while the same product costs 10 dirhams per unit in Rabat. Result: there is a rush to the Tangier markets. The owners of these markets earn an average of 400 dirhams on the sale of 100 tablets in the cities of Fès and Salé. The police have a major challenge to meet, the newspaper reports.
