Earthquake in Morocco: the Atlas Lions mobilize

The Atlas Lions, who were to host Liberia in a qualifying match for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2024) at the Grand Stade d’Agadir on Saturday, have expressed their solidarity with the victims of the powerful earthquake that struck Morocco in the night from Friday to Saturday by donating blood.
On Saturday, national coach Walid Regragui and his protégés donated blood at the Agadir Regional Blood Transfusion Center (CRTS) to save lives. Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi took the opportunity to urge his healthy compatriots to do the same. "At the moment, the priority is to provide blood to those who are in critical condition. Blood donation is the responsibility of everyone to save as many lives as possible. Your help is essential," he posted on social media.
The call for blood donation aims to collect as many blood bags as possible to save lives and meet the growing needs of hospitals in this vital matter, especially for the affected citizens in the areas hit by the earthquake, explained Abdelatif Amou, director of the Agadir CRTS. Blood donors are expected in all regional blood transfusion centers.
According to a new report released Saturday evening by the Ministry of the Interior, the earthquake has killed 2,012 people and injured 2,059, 1,404 of whom are in very serious condition. In detail, 1,293 people lost their lives in the province of Al Haouz, and 452 in the province of Taroudant, both located south of Marrakech, the department of Abdelouafi Laftit said in a statement.
