Dutch Fugitive Extradited After 8 Years on the Run in Morocco

Christo Hülters, 43, was extradited to the Netherlands after a long period of fleeing for eight years and a recent arrest in Morocco.
In December 2018, Hülters was tried in absentia and sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempting to kill two men in June 2015, during a party in Bergen op Zoom. This violent altercation had broken out following a dispute between children in a playground.
Since these events, Hülters had been hiding and evading Dutch justice. Thanks to a police investigation and cooperation between the Moroccan police and a special unit from the Netherlands, he was spotted and arrested in August 2023 in Meknes, Morocco.
Upon arrival at Schiphol airport, he was taken care of by the Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen (DJI) of the Netherlands to begin his prison sentence. His arrest was not prompted by specific information, although he had been listed on the National Search List of the Netherlands for several years and a reward of 10,000 euros had been offered for any information leading to his capture.
