Dozens of Migrants Breach Border Fence in Melilla, Spain; Several Injured
Monday 22 July 2019, by
According to a government services spokesman, "about 200 people tried to enter irregularly and about fifty succeeded".
There are six minor injuries among the law enforcement officers, and two among the migrants. One of them was hospitalized after a leg fracture. A similar attempt had occurred in May when a hundred people had crossed the fence.
For the Prefect’s Spokesman, "there is not as much pressure on the border" as in other years, specifying that the Spanish cities of Ceuta and Melilla, north of Morocco, are the only land borders of the European Union with Africa, highly secured.
