Dozens of Agadir Hotels and Restaurants Face Downgrades Over Health Violations

Some 54 hotels and 31 restaurants operating in Agadir do not comply with food health, hygiene and safety rules. This is the finding of the provincial committee in charge of the control, monitoring and classification of these units, after conducting unannounced visits to 130 establishments since the beginning of this year.

Of the 130 establishments visited by the provincial committee, 85 received formal notices and warnings, reports Al Akhbar. Only 43 hotels managed to maintain their rating and six restaurants "were affected by a downgrade", the daily informs, adding that "all the controlled units in which breaches of the law were observed have been ordered to remedy their shortcomings" within "precise deadlines", "under penalty of having their operating license withdrawn".

The establishments concerned must review their work in terms of "cleanliness of the premises, compliance with hygiene standards and vigilance on the food safety of the products served", indicates the publication, which recalls that "the hotel classification criteria also include the quality of service. The Ministry of Tourism calls on firms to appoint consultants who stay in the hotels, note the quality of service and pay their bill like other customers (covered by the Ministry of Tourism)".

This operation "includes all stages, from hotel booking and confirmation, to departure from the establishment, including arrival reception, services in the bar, restaurant and room comfort. Subjectivity is over: a score of 1 or 0 will be applied to the hotel’s services according to very specific technical criteria".
