New Direct Flight Connects Essaouira, Morocco to Tel Aviv as Israeli Tourism Surges

An agreement between the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and the airline Arkia provides for the launch of a direct flight between Essaouira and Tel Aviv. The agreement is expected to be signed this Friday, July 28.
This new air route aims to facilitate tourism and economic exchanges, while strengthening cultural and commercial ties between the two countries.
Israeli tourism figures in Morocco are on the rise. The Tourism Observatory reports a 146% increase in the number of Israeli tourists since the first half of 2019, reaching 38,456 during the same period in 2023. Part of this improvement stems from the simplification of travel formalities, notably through the introduction of the electronic visa, which has attracted 55% of Israeli applicants among 150,000 requests.
Moreover, there is a growing interest of Moroccans in Israel. According to the latest publication of the American research institute The Abraham Accords Peace Institute (AAPI), about 1,800 Moroccans visited the Hebrew state in the first five months of 2023, an increase of 80% compared to the same period in 2022.
