Diesel Prices Drop Slightly in Morocco, Gasoline Holds Steady

After a few days of increase, diesel prices are experiencing a slight drop. As for gasoline prices, they have remained stable, in accordance with the recent update of fuel prices in Morocco.

A pleasant surprise awaited motorists at the pump on Sunday. The liter of diesel fell by 12 cents, reaching 11.69 dirhams, while that of gasoline was around 13.55 dirhams. These prices vary depending on proximity, distance from ports, or the cost of transportation and distance. However, these prices are far from satisfying Moroccans. They continue to demand "further reductions".

Diesel had undergone a 16-cent increase, while gasoline increased by 20 cents in the previous revision on February 1st. In Morocco, fuel distribution companies update prices twice a month: a first revision at the beginning of the month, followed by a second in the middle of the month, thus maintaining the "rule of a revision every 15 days". "Stations have no control over the increase or decrease in fuel prices. They simply follow the recommendations received from the distribution companies, whose adjustments are generally uniform between these companies," said the managers of service stations and distribution points.

"The level of reduction in the retail price of diesel during the third quarter of 2024 was 27 cents per liter lower than the reduction recorded in purchase costs, as well as in international prices," the Competition Council specified in its latest report on "monitoring the implementation of the commitments made by wholesale diesel and gasoline distribution companies under the settlement agreements for this period.
