Desert Warriors: Morocco and France Forge Alliance in High-Stakes Military Drill

Strengthening interoperability between armed forces and consolidating the strategic cooperation between Paris and Rabat in a demanding desert environment. This is the objective of the 2025 edition of the Chergui exercise "designed around a scenario simulating an aggression against the territorial integrity of Morocco", specifies the French Ministry of the Armed Forces in a press release published on its website, adding that the exercise is taking place in the operational sector of Tafilalet.

France has mobilized for these maneuvers "elements of the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment, a platoon of the 1st Chasseurs Regiment, a section of the 1st Tirailleurs Regiment and a command module of the 4th Airmobile Brigade, which are operating alongside units of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR)". As for Morocco, it has deployed M1A2 Abrams tanks, as well as Gazelle, Tigre and NH90 helicopters. These forces are mobilized "in a particularly realistic and demanding environment due to the relief of the Atlas, the sand and the thermal variations", specifies the same source.

"Beyond the operational aspect, Chergui 2025 testifies to the solidity of the strategic partnership between France and Morocco. It aims to strengthen military interoperability; develop tactical and technical know-how and address regional security challenges in an unstable international context", concludes the same source.
