Desalinated water finally arrives in Marrakech

The infrastructure is titanic. The network is based on 185 kilometers of high-strength steel pipes to transport water to Marrakech, Tamansourt and the Ourika Valley. According to the Société Régionale Multiservices Marrakech-Safi, the system relies on three main pumping stations capable of delivering a nominal flow rate of 3.2 cubic meters per second.

The produced water transits through a 10,000 cubic meter regulation reservoir, located 18 kilometers from Marrakech, before being injected into the distribution network. Currently, engineers are finalizing the last compliance tests and configuring the facilities to ensure secure and sustainable transport of the resource.

On Bladi.net: Morocco’s ambitious plan to never run out of water again

The operational schedule is already set. A first phase starts this April with the injection of 40 million cubic meters per year. As of June, the capacity will be doubled to reach a total volume of 80 million cubic meters per year, thus permanently relieving the water pressure on the region.
