New developments for the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline
Morocco and Nigeria will sign the agreement for the $25 billion giant gas pipeline this year. This 6,900 km project, strategic for Africa and Europe, is expected to deliver its first cubic meters of gas by 2031.
Amina Benkhadra, director of ONHYM, confirmed the imminent signing of the intergovernmental agreement. A high authority comprising 13 countries will be based in Nigeria to ensure political coordination. In Morocco, a joint venture between ONHYM and the Nigerian NNPC will directly manage the execution, financing and construction of the infrastructure.

According to [Reuters], this pipeline will strengthen economic integration in West Africa by boosting electricity production and industrial development. For Amina Benkhadra, this project positions the Kingdom as a "strategic energy bridge" between the continent and Europe. The project already has the support of ECOWAS.
The 6,900 km route will combine land and maritime segments. The first steps will connect Morocco to the deposits in Mauritania and Senegal. Ultimately, the system will have a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters, with 15 billion reserved for the Moroccan market and exports to the European market.

Each segment will be developed as a self-sustaining system to generate value quickly. Although the final financing is still ongoing through equity and debt, Amina Benkhadra specifies that "the project is generating great interest due to its scale and phased structure".
