Defense: Morocco Prepares to Acquire the KC-390 Millennium, the New Giant of the Skies

José Messio Monteiro has not yet revealed the official list of countries with which these arms contracts will be signed. Nevertheless, Morocco’s name is circulating insistently. Last July, specialized Brazilian reports already indicated very advanced discussions with the kingdom for the purchase of approximately five KC-390 Millennium tactical transport aircraft. For manufacturer Embraer, the conclusion of this agreement estimated at $600 million represents a major stake, intended to strengthen the implantation of Brazilian defense industry on the African continent.

This strategic rapprochement is part of the continuity of a mission carried out in Morocco in April of last year by a company delegation. On that occasion, Embraer had emphasized the excellent prospects for commercial and industrial cooperation between the two nations. The choice of Rabat as a key regional partner to structure a supply chain is no accident. It rewards the exceptional capabilities demonstrated by Morocco’s aerospace industry, particularly in mechanical machining, structure manufacturing, and the use of composite materials.

To reassure its future buyers about the reliability of its aircraft, the manufacturer recently conducted an extensive demonstration campaign. Last week, Embraer indicated that its KC-390 had just completed a successful international tour, with a 100% completion rate. Before returning to its Gavião Peixoto factory, the aircraft flew over eleven countries, accumulating more than 47,000 nautical miles and 54 flights over more than 70 days. With nearly 140 hours spent in the air, the transport aircraft was tested in extreme conditions, from the freezing cold of the Arctic to the hottest and most humid climates, thus proving its high level of operational performance.
