U.S. Defeats Morocco 2-0 in U20 Women’s World Cup, Leaving Atlas Lionesses Winless
The Lionesses of the Atlas were unable to turn the tide in their second match of the U20 Women’s World Cup. They suffered a 2-0 defeat against the United States on Wednesday evening at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali.
The Americans, thanks to goals from Yuna McCormack and Maddie Dahlien, secured their first victory in the tournament. The Moroccans, despite a solid defense for much of the match, cracked at the start of the second half and in stoppage time.
Despite several clear chances, the players of the national team failed to find the back of the net, penalized by a lack of offensive efficiency.
This defeat follows the one conceded against Paraguay in the first match. Morocco, participating for the first time in this competition, will face defending champions Spain on September 7. A very difficult match.
In the other match of the group, Spain dominated Paraguay by the same score of 2-0. The United States had previously lost their first match against the Spaniards (1-0).
