The date of Eid al-Fitr 2026 in Morocco is known
Astronomical forecasts announce the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 for Friday, March 20, 2026. If science confirms the visibility of the crescent, the official date in Morocco remains subject to the final decision of the religious authorities.
According to scientific data, the lunar conjunction will occur on Thursday, March 19 at 01:24 GMT. For Morocco, which began the fast on February 19, this day will correspond to the 29th day of Ramadan. The conditions for observing the new crescent will be met in the afternoon of the same day.
Visibility maps indicate that the crescent can be observed with a telescope in the majority of African countries. In Morocco, naked-eye observation by experts is considered possible if the atmosphere is perfectly clear, which argues for a 29-day Ramadan month.
"Proponents of the unified astronomical calendar are unanimous in saying that Eid will be on Friday," the experts say. This scientific convergence suggests a harmonized celebration, with the Moon setting after the Sun with sufficient luminosity to be detected on the national territory.
However, in accordance with Moroccan tradition, the final word rests with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs. The institution will only validate the date after the official visual observation scheduled for Thursday evening, after the Al Maghrib prayer, thus ensuring the rigor of the Kingdom’s lunar calendar.
