According to astronomer Hassan Talibi, cited by Médias24, the crescent’s height above the horizon (between 7 and 8 degrees) and the length of time it remains in the sky will be insufficient to meet the strict observation criteria in force in the Kingdom. The map from the International Astronomy Center also confirms that Morocco will be outside the visibility zone that evening, which will be limited to part of North America.

The lunar crescent will therefore only be visible on the evening of Friday, March 20. As a result, Moroccans will fast for one additional day, bringing the duration of Ramadan to 30 days, and Eid al-Fitr will logically fall on Saturday, March 21. As tradition requires, however, this date must be confirmed through an official announcement by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
