Dangerous Jellyfish Swarm Moroccan Atlantic Beaches, Injuring Beachgoers

The return of jellyfish in Moroccan waters is not without incident. Indeed, they have injured several people on the Atlantic coasts last weekend.
Jellyfish are sowing panic on Moroccan beaches! For some time now, it has been a nightmare for the populations who want to go and enjoy the beach. A horde of jellyfish that have invaded the Atlantic coasts of Morocco are causing concern among the populations.
Also called Physalia physalis or Portuguese man-of-war, the jellyfish would have already, according to the daily Al Massae, stung four people. The Arabic-language newspaper reports that these jellyfish have appeared for a week on the beaches of Al Hawziya, Souirya in the Safi region in the west, as well as in Essaouira located on the Atlantic coast.
Al Massae emphasizes that this species of purple jellyfish, apparently pushed towards the beaches by a very strong wind, are often seen on the Moroccan coasts for several years, even if their appearance remains limited between March and April.
For its part, in order to alert the populations to the risks involved, the National Institute of Fisheries Research in the Laâyoune region had published last month a press release to warn of the landing of jellyfish along the coast, between Laâyoune and Casablanca.
The populations would do well to be very careful because, according to doctors, even though no deaths related to jellyfish stings have been reported in Morocco so far, it could prove to be very painful.
