Massive Online Travel Scam Targets Moroccan Diaspora with Fake Deals

Many Moroccans and Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs) claim to have been victims of a large-scale scam orchestrated by fake online travel agencies and other fictitious websites. These lured them with attractive packages to appealing destinations.
A round trip to Bangkok, Thailand, for 5,000 dirhams, while the real price exceeds 10,000 dirhams. This is one of the packages offered by these fake online travel agencies and other fictitious websites. They also offer travel packages to Shanghai, China, for 6,000 dirhams - instead of about 11,300 dirhams - as well as destinations like Paris, Madrid, or Switzerland at unbeatable prices. Once interested vacationers pay for the package, the fraudsters disappear, notes Assabah.
Among the victims of this scam are doctors, engineers, and students. A victim who requested anonymity revealed to the Arabic-language daily that a fictitious company posing as a travel agency without any authorization scammed an entire group, before they eventually discovered that the company in question operated in the advertising field and had no connection to the travel and tourism sector.
Helpless, the victims have called on the competent authorities to punish these fraudsters and strengthen control over the activities of this sector.
