Dakhla Emerges as Global Kitesurfing Hotspot, Rivaling Hawaii and Havana

With a pleasant climate all year round, the city of Dakhla has become the epicenter of kitesurfing in the last twenty years, like Havana or Hawaii, writes the French magazine "Paris Match" in its latest edition.
In an article titled "Morocco: Discovering Dakhla, the Mecca of Kitesurfing", the weekly considers that "the small peninsula offers an ideal setting to indulge in this fashionable gliding sport", adding that it is lulled by winds that slalom between the dunes and blow over a shallow and temperate sea.
As a result, in a few years, the number of tourists in the city has quadrupled and could reach 200,000 soon, with the end of the pandemic. Celebrities like José Garcia, Barack Obama, John Kerry, Brad Pitt, Prince William, as well as Richard Branson, have come to practice this sport in Dakhla, it is noted.
Located at the southern tip of Morocco, wedged between the Atlantic and the Sahara, Dakhla also offers unique postcard landscapes, including its immense white sand dune, 30 kilometers from the city and often deserted beaches, like that of Porto Rico.
Its lagoon, which extends over 40 kilometers, hosts an annual stage of the kitesurfing world cup, which lasts 5 days.
