COVID-19 Lockdowns May Lead to Surge in Unplanned Pregnancies in Developing Nations

In the midst of confinement, more than 47 million women will not be able to access contraception; this would lead to an increase in the birth rate worldwide. This increase will be observed in 114 low and middle-income countries, including Morocco.
"In 114 low and middle-income countries, 47 million women would be unable to access modern contraceptive methods. We expect 7 million unintended pregnancies if lockdown measures continue for 6 months, with significant disruptions to health services," according to data published by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Tuesday, April 28. The UN agency responsible for sexual and reproductive health specifies that "about 2 million additional women may not have access to modern contraceptive methods."
Morocco, one of the low and middle-income countries, will not escape the baby boom. Especially since the confinement imposed on citizens in order to curb the spread of covid-19 brings couples closer together. They spend more time together than before. It goes without saying that sexual intercourse could multiply. In the absence of modern contraceptive methods, many women and girls could become pregnant. As a result, the kingdom would record unwanted pregnancies if the confinement is prolonged with significant disruptions to health services.
