Court Overturns Mohammedia Mayor Election, PJD and RNI Set for Political Showdown

The Court of Cassation has just canceled the election of Imane Sabir from the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) as president of the urban commune of Mohammedia. Her party is by no means defeated, and intends to face the RNI who rather sees its hour come to recover the seat that had been "stolen" from it.
With the municipal elections scheduled for 2021, all attention is now focused on the control of the town hall for the remaining months of this term. This is the open door to a merciless struggle between the members of the PJD and those of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) who are ready to do anything to return to the management of local affairs, indicates Al Ahdath Al Maghrebia.
Zoubida Taoufik, this is the name of the RNI candidate to succeed Imane Sabir, elected on December 31, 2018, to replace Hassan Antara, from the same party, whose election, recalls the daily, had also been canceled.
Mohamed Atwani of the RNI had accused his opponent in this election of having obstructed the electoral process with the help of certain elements who had assaulted him, to prevent him from accessing the room where the assembly was being held. An assault that earned Mohamed Atwani 31 days of disability following his evacuation to the emergency room of Moulay Abdellah hospital. And then, Imane Sabir’s election was criticized for the presence of 22 elected officials out of the 47 that the council has, in violation of organic law 113-14 relating to municipalities, which stipulates that the council can only deliberate validly in the presence of the absolute majority of the members in office, i.e. 24 members.
