PAM Sweeps Imintanout By-Election, Ousting PJD from City Council

The city of Imintanout has swung in favor of the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), which has soundly beaten the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) and the other parties that participated in the by-elections. The Islamist party thus definitively loses the municipality.
The PAM emerged victorious from the partial elections of the municipality of Imintanout which were held last Thursday. According to the results, the party won 13 seats out of the 15 at stake, the FFD and the USFP each won one seat, reports Al Massae. The files of 37 candidates representing the PAM (14), the PJD (3), the FFD (8), the UC (10) and the USFP (2) had been registered with the Ministry of the Interior.
These elections were organized following the suspension of the municipal council of Imintanout by the governor of the province of Chichaoua, Bouabid El Guerrab. He had set up a special commission to manage the day-to-day affairs of the municipality after the resignation of 15 members of the municipal council then led by Housine Amdjar of the PJD.
The administrative court had revoked the president of the former municipal council, the socialist Brahim Yahia due to internal conflicts. Elected on January 18, 2019, the PJD member Houcine Amdjar presided over the destinies of the city of Imintanout, but the new municipal majority had fallen apart, leading to the organization of partial elections.
