Corruption Scandal Rocks Moroccan Province: High-Level Investigation Launched

The Ministry of the Interior has given instructions for the opening of a comprehensive and in-depth administrative investigation to verify the accuracy of the information contained in a video broadcast on news websites and social media platforms, containing serious allegations of corruption made by a municipal councilor of Safi against the former governor of the province.

A commission from the General Inspection of Territorial Administration, the supreme control body of the Ministry of the Interior, is responsible for conducting the investigation. In this video, the municipal councilor openly accuses the former territorial official of having demanded a bribe from one of the contractors as a condition for allowing him to win the contract for the realization of a road project in the province.

The commission should proceed to hear the former governor of the province concerned by the accusations, to collect the testimonies of all the parties involved, including the municipal councilor who made the statements and the contractor mentioned, as well as to examine all the documents relating to the project concerned.

The commission should seek to detect any irregularity or potential offense on the one hand, and to gather accurate and complete information to clearly and unambiguously determine the responsibilities on the other hand. In the event of irregularities or offenses, the department of Abdelouafi Laftit will take all appropriate administrative, disciplinary and legal measures against any person whose responsibility would be established in this case.
