Coronavirus Outbreak: Over 160 Cases Linked to Agadir Produce Factory

A new outbreak of infections was discovered on Friday, August 21 in the packaging plant of the company Nature Growers in Aït Melloul, south of Agadir. More than 160 cases of infection have been recorded.

The misfortune came from one of the employees of this green bean and pepper packaging and conditioning station for export. She would have contracted the virus before infecting her colleagues, who began to show the first symptoms. Alerted, the local authorities and the vigilance committee of Inezgane Aït-Melloul launched the first screening tests.

In total, more than 200 tests were carried out in this factory of nearly 300 employees. For now, 166 cases of infection have been recorded, pending the rest of the analyzes. Concerned by this critical situation, the local authorities are looking for contact cases in order to contain the spread of the virus.

They have also taken a set of measures to isolate the factory and its surroundings, as well as the residential areas of the active cases, namely Inezgane and Aït Melloul.
