Controversy Erupts as Moroccan School Converted to Horse Stable for Festival
Horses in a school yard, as well as sorbas (teams or troupes of tbourida) transported in school buses, this is what could be seen in Khat Azakan, near Safi. Associations have protested against all this.
For the needs of a tbourida festival, a school in Khat Azakan, a commune near Safi, was transformed into a stable for the horses, and the school bus usually used to take the students to school and back home was used to transport the members of the sorbas. Events that did not go unnoticed...
Photos of these facts have been widely shared on social networks, which, as one can understand, provoked the indignation and anger of Internet users.
And not only that. Rue20, the source of this information, writes that the inhabitants of the region as well as several associations and activist activists have risen up against this unacceptable decision (to transform - even temporarily - a school into a stable), attributed by them to the president of the commune in question as well as to the Ministry of National Education.
The tbourida festival itself has been questioned by the same stakeholders who see no need for it, in one of the regions that suffer the most from poverty in Morocco, as indicated by Rue20.
