Civil Guard Busts Hashish Ring Exploiting Moroccan Minors in Melilla

The Civil Guard has dismantled a criminal network dedicated to hashish trafficking from Morocco that has started using minors to introduce this drug into Melilla after the closure of the borders between Spain and Morocco. In total, 24 people were arrested and 275 kilos of hashish seized.
The alternative found by this network to continue introducing Moroccan hashish into Melilla despite the closure of the borders is to recruit minors in a situation of "extreme vulnerability" to ensure retail sales in the autonomous city, reports Canarias7.
The Civil Guard opened an investigation last October after discovering the existence of an organized group in Melilla that was recruiting minors being cared for at the "La Purisima" minor center to retrieve the drug packages thrown over the border fence, thus risking being apprehended.
Once the drug was recovered, the organization proceeded to transfer it to a warehouse located in the Cañada de Hidum neighborhood, pending its distribution and retail sale at various points in the city. The criminal group was very well organized and each member had a role to play to avoid being caught.
In total, the Melilla Command seized 275 kilos of hashish and arrested 24 people, members of this network.
