Chip Shortage Forces Renault to Halt Production at Multiple European Plants

The French manufacturer Renault has decided to temporarily suspend the production of its vehicles at the Tangier plant. The shortage of electronic chips is at the origin of this suspension.
Tough times for the automotive industry in these Covid times. In addition to the Tangier site, those of Sandouville (Seine-Maritime), Pitesti (Romania) of Renault are also suspended. "The supply chain and purchasing teams are mobilized to manage the impact of this global crisis that is affecting the entire automotive sector," said a Renault spokeswoman to Reuters.
Another French manufacturer has made the same decision. This is Stellantis, resulting from the merger between PSA and Fiat-Chrysler. On Friday, the Eisenach plant in Germany ceased its activities. The manufacturer has also suspended a line at the Zaragoza plant in Spain.
