Children of Slain Moroccan Woman in Spain Placed in Foster Care

The three minor children of Ouardia, the Moroccan woman killed by her husband in Tarancón (Cuenca), will be placed in foster care, announced Blanca Fernández, the spokesperson for the government of Castilla-La Mancha and Minister of Equality.
Equality Minister Blanca Fernández announced that Ouardia’s three children, aged 5, 4 and 2, will be taken care of by social services and placed in a foster family. The official made this decision after being informed that the Moroccan woman had not confirmed being a victim of gender-based violence by her husband and, consequently, did not receive the necessary protection.

A "regrettable" situation, indicated the spokesperson for the government of Castilla-La Mancha, asking not to hold the victim "responsible", reports La Voz Digital. The municipal council of the city will constitute itself as a civil party for the trial of Ouardia’s husband, also of Moroccan origin, assured the minister, even if judicial sources supported on Tuesday that "only the victim’s testimony can overturn the presumption of innocence of the accused".
