Chelsea’s Tuchel Relieved as Ziyech Misses Africa Cup of Nations Amid Club-Country Tensions

The non-selection of Hakim Ziyech for the next Africa Cup of Nations has made at least one happy: coach Thomas Tuchel.
The German coach wants to have his entire squad available for Chelsea’s upcoming matches in January, when the Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place. However, the Moroccan player should at least miss the next match against Aston Villa tonight due to a slight calf injury, the same source specifies.
Ziyech’s absence from the Atlas Lions roster was predictable. At odds with Vahid Halilhodzic due to disciplinary issues, the player has not participated in Morocco’s matches for many months, despite the conciliation attempts made by certain players and officials of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), including its president Fouzi Lekjaa.
