Charleroi Airport Surpasses Pre-Pandemic Traffic Levels, Driven by Moroccan Tourism

Traffic at Charleroi airport increased sharply in 2022, to the point of exceeding the level recorded before Covid-19. This is thanks to Morocco, one of the favorite destinations of Belgians.
Charleroi airport recorded nearly 8.3 million passengers in 2022, compared to 8.2 million in 2019, thus slightly exceeding the attendance level before the Covid-19 pandemic that crippled the sector. "The number of passengers and flights at Charleroi airport in 2022 has never been higher in the last four years," said the cabinet of the Walloon Minister of Airports, Adrien Dolimont. What about the reasons for travel? 64% for holidays or leisure, 21% for family visits and 15% for business.
Charleroi airport owes this feat to the destinations most popular with Belgians or Belgian-Moroccans. The top 5 destination countries in 2022 were Italy, Spain, France, Morocco and Portugal.
