Ceuta Cancels Eid al-Adha Celebration, Sparking Muslim Community Outrage

Deputy Fatima Hamed is outraged by the decision to cancel the Eid al-Adha celebration in Ceuta. For her, the meaning of this celebration has been misunderstood by the local authorities who, in this case, have lacked consideration for the Muslim community.
The MDyC deputy has questioned the Ceuta government about the cancellation of the celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice scheduled for July 31. In a question addressed to the city president, Juan Vivas, she asks him to explain why it is not possible to "celebrate the feast, even in the family intimacy, when elsewhere, you are allowed to celebrate a wedding and invite 300 people".
"We consider that there is no obstacle to not celebrating the collective prayer, which is quite distinct from the sacrifice which, for its part, can be done at the level of each family," continues the deputy before specifying that "there is no objective, legal or sanitary argument" to this decision.
For Hamed, the city has the means to take the necessary measures for a good celebration of the feast. What she deplores, however, is the "lack of will" of the city authorities, and even more, the "total lack of respect towards the Muslim community which at no time has been associated with the decision-making".
