Ceuta and Melilla Borders Overwhelmed as Moroccan Diaspora Returns for Eid al-Adha

Less than a week before the celebration of Eid al-Adha in Morocco, the borders of Tarajal in Ceuta and Beni Ensar in Melilla are having difficulty managing the flow of Moroccans from Europe. The traffic jam was monstrous last weekend at the two borders, while the summer season is just beginning.
The "strict" documentary and health controls at the borders, including those of goods, as well as the 45% increase in the flow of Moroccans living abroad compared to 2019, have caused a monstrous traffic jam at the borders of the two autonomous cities with Morocco last weekend, the first of July which announces the beginning of the summer season.
At the Tarajal border, the low cost of the crossing from Algeciras compared to the direct connections to Tanger Med has led to a significant flow of Moroccans living abroad in the city and long lines of vehicles in the waiting area, reports EFE, specifying that the waiting time has reached more than six hours in some cases.
The same situation was recorded at the Beni Ensar border where the area set up to accommodate the vehicles of Moroccans living abroad as part of the Marhaba Operation was overwhelmed with queues. Here, "priority is given to Moroccans living abroad," according to the government delegation, stressing that these are "Morocco’s orders."
"The weeks go by and we have no assurance from our government about the new entry and exit conditions in the coming months and whether a commercial customs will be installed," wonder Spanish police sources.
