Casablanca: a stadium in place of the "scrapyard

Wali Mohamed Mhidia held an emergency meeting with the governors of Moulay Rachid, Sidi Othman and Ben M’sik to launch this restructuring project. The program is divided into two parts: a 35,000-seat stadium that meets international standards and a large hospital center. This new health facility is intended to relieve the Sidi Othman hospital and meet the needs of the high-density neighborhoods in the east of the city.

The land plot chosen for this project currently houses several facilities, including the Tessema stadium, a banquet hall and an equestrian facility. The major challenge lies in the demolition of the "scrapyard", the largest used spare parts market in the city. This site currently constitutes the heart of the economic activity for thousands of merchants and automotive professionals.

To mitigate the social consequences, compensation measures have been announced. The evicted merchants will benefit from replacement land plots in the province of Médiouna. The Wali insisted on a rigorous social support in order to guarantee the rights of the workers while respecting a particularly tight implementation schedule to free up the necessary land.
