Casablanca to Launch Feasibility Study for Long-Awaited Metro Project

On the instructions of the Wali of the Casablanca region, Mohamed Mhidia, a feasibility study for the metro project in the city will soon be carried out.
"Mohamed Mhidia has ordered the realization of a feasibility study with a view to finalizing the Casablanca metro project," announced Moulay Ahmed Afilal, vice-president of the Casablanca commune, in a statement to Assahra Maghribia. He will specify that "the municipal council is about to launch this study in the coming weeks".
The construction of the Casablanca metro is of paramount importance. "The realization of a major project like the Casablanca Metro would be an ideal solution to the transport problems in the city, which is preparing to host the 2030 World Cup," assured the official. It appears from his explanations that this project has been considered for several years.
"The last serious discussion on this project dates back to 2013, when the City Council, under the leadership of Mayor Mohamed Sajid, had announced its commitment to completing a 15 km long elevated metro line, connecting the Sidi Moumen district to the Hassan II Mosque," he recalled, adding that its investment cost (8 billion dirhams) deemed too high had led to its suspension in 2014.
