Casablanca Slips in Global City Influence Rankings

Bad news for Casablanca! The economic capital of Morocco has lost ground in the global ranking of the most influential cities.
According to the 2024 index published by the American firm Kearney, it is now in 105th place out of 156 cities studied, five places lower than in previous years.
This setback is all the more worrying as the White City does not even appear in some thematic rankings, such as that of "smart cities." However, it ranks 137th in the prospects index, which assesses the future potential of cities. A ranking that confirms a downward trend observed since 2019, when it occupied the 98th position.
Not surprisingly, the giants New York, London, Paris and Tokyo are at the top of the table. China is doing well with Beijing (6th) and Shanghai (8th) in the top 10.
In the Arab world, Dubai (24th) is leading the way, followed by Doha (51st) and Abu Dhabi (59th). Riyadh, Cairo and Kuwait City bring up the rear.
The Kearney report warns of the environmental challenges facing cities. Climate disasters, sources of heavy financial and material losses, hit urban areas first.
The Global Cities Index is based on five criteria: business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience and political engagement. The goal? Measure the ability of cities to attract investments, talents and ideas.
