Moroccan Cities Stagnate in Global Expat Quality of Life Rankings

Moroccan cities are not well off in the ranking of cities that offer the best quality of life for expatriates.
The Mercer consulting firm has released its ranking of cities that offer a better quality of life for expatriates. For this 2024 edition, Rabat maintains (127th global rank) the same position as the previous year’s index. Casablanca, on the other hand, has gained one place and ranks 135th globally.
Zurich tops the global ranking. The most populous city in Switzerland is followed by Vienna. Geneva, another Swiss city, gains two places and climbs to third place in the ranking.
In North Africa, Rabat dominates the city ranking. It is followed by Tunis (129th global rank). Casablanca takes third place, while Algiers (183rd global rank) takes fourth place. Then come Cairo (190th global rank), Nouakchott (226th global rank) and Tripoli (232nd global rank).
In the Middle East (in the Arab countries), it is Dubai (United Arab Emirates) that dominates the ranking. It occupies the 83rd place globally after losing four places. It is followed by another Emirati city, Abu Dhabi (85th global rank). Then come the Qatari capital Doha (108th global rank), Muscat (119th global rank), and the Saudi cities of Riyadh and Jeddah respectively 164th and 169th global rank.
To establish its ranking on quality of life, the Mercer firm takes into account several key factors, including political stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure, as well as the social and cultural environment of each city. These factors play a fundamental role in the choice of employees regarding their place of transfer, it says.
