Casablanca Ranks 128th in Global Cost of Living for Expatriates, Study Finds

A study conducted by Mercer placed the city of Casablanca in 128th place among the most expensive cities in the world for expatriates. Conducted on a sample of more than 500 cities worldwide, the study takes into account the cost of living index.

The study in question looked at the ability of expatriates to keep up with the cost of living in different metropolises, and aims to provide companies with real data for better allocation of human and financial resources.

The ranking of cities is based on the respective costs of transportation, food, clothing, household items, cultural and sporting activities, as well as rental prices.

The Top Ten is mainly marked by Asian cities, with Hong Kong taking first place as the most expensive city in the world, followed by Tokyo and Singapore. As for Arab and African cities, Dubai ranks 22nd, followed by Kinshasa in 23rd position.

Casablanca ranks 128th, while Rabat is 160th. The two Moroccan metropolises are thus among the most expensive cities, both for expatriates and for city dwellers. A finding that can be useful for multinationals in setting the salaries of their expatriate executives, but even more so for the evaluation of Moroccan scholarships.
