New Casablanca Parking Garage Sparks Controversy Over Pricing

The new underground parking lot of the Arab League, located under Avenue Ibrahim Roudani in Casablanca, is the subject of criticism even before its opening. The announced parking rates are provoking the protest of many motorists.

The price schedule indicates a cost of 5 dirhams for a duration of less than one hour. This rate gradually increases to reach 30 dirhams for a stay of more than 12 hours. Each additional hour beyond 24 hours is billed 1 dirham. The loss of the ticket results in a minimum penalty of 40 dirhams, in addition to the total cost of the parking.

These rates, although in line with those of other underground car parks in Casablanca, are considered excessive for regular use. The monthly subscriptions, offered between 300 and 500 dirhams, do not constitute a significant economic alternative for many users.

The parking lot, with a capacity of 325 spaces and built on an area of one hectare, is part of a larger infrastructure program. This program, with a budget of 500 million dirhams, aims to create an additional 1,600 underground parking spaces in Casablanca, in anticipation of major sporting events such as the 2025 CAN and the 2030 World Cup.

Despite this investment, doubts remain about the parking lot’s ability to meet the growing demand for parking in this sector.
